Another ACTUAL converstion with a library patron.........
Me (sitting at desk as lady walks up): Hi! How are you today?
Her: (droping movies onto desk): Not very good, these are late. *makes loud sighing noise*
Me: Oh, that's not good. Let's double check maybe they're not. *with smile in her voice*
Her: *loud sigh again*
Me: I'm afraid they are a week overdue so you owe $6 dollars for each one, and I notice this one doesn't have the case with it.
Her: $6!! That's pretty expensive. I had that case but I had people over and we got busy and it got misplaced.
Me: I know how that is when you have a houseful but unfortunately I can't check that movie back in until I have the case unless I charge you for the case.
Her: *very loud sigh*: so I owe you $12 and I have to go get the case or you'll charge me for it?
Me: Well, yes, we do need the case back.
Her: Geez! *another sigh* I guess I'll have to go look for the case. I'll have to pay you later.
Me: Ok, that's no problem. Sorry about that.
Her: That's pretty expensive movies. I could have got them cheaper at the movie rental. And now I have to look for the case.
Me (outloud): Hopefully it won't be hard to find. You have a nice evening
Me (in my head): Forgive me please, we only lent you the movies for FREE. How dare we ask that you bring them back INTACT! The freakin' nerve of us. And by the way, you nut job, by all means go to the movie store because I am pretty sure that they don't just let you take the movies for a week like we do and if you brought the movies back a week late to them I'm pretty sure they would charge you extra too. And I don't think they look t0o highly on you bringin' em back without the case!

WE let you take stuff home for free...use it all you want...and all we ask is that you bring it back in roughly the same shape it was in when it left and by a certain date that we not only tell you but that we stamp right on whatever item it is you are taking!!
UGH!!! I need chocolate.
